Michele’s Playground and Reflection Garden

Thank you for your interest in supporting Garfield Park Academy’s “Go Play” Playground Renovation and Reflection Garden.

GPA’s playground serves an important higher purpose than most. The full return to school this Fall has been an important — sometimes challenging — milestone for GPA students. We continue to work in earnest to help them make this important transition back to in-person instruction. For many, outdoor physical activity is a crucial part of their school day and social/emotional learning.

Alone with a teacher or social worker, a visit to the playground helps a student take respite, calm themselves, and process difficult situations. In supervised small groups, the playground becomes an outdoor ‘classroom’ for students to use new social skills and build and maintain relationships.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for a significant renovation to our playground, with modern, engaging equipment, and meeting all contemporary accessibility and safety requirements. Our effort also impacts the local Willingboro community as our playground is available to neighborhood children and their families.

Our effort has taken on new meaning this year as our school community mourns the loss of Michele Heinz, our school business manager of 14 years. You may purchase a brick in Michele’s honor, or with any family name, student or alumni name, business or organization, or in remembrance or in honor of a favorite teacher or loved one.
